About two years ago...

Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Yesterday - The Beatles

That's when I landed up in the hospital in Hospital Besar Kuala Lumpur (HKL). I had a tumour that time, without knowing. The doctor finally diagnosed me as a mediastinal tumour. I know it's a hard thing to live with, but what can I do?? I have to face it. With a so-called terrible 'chemotherapy', which has the chance of killing people doing chemotherapy. I did a total of 8 cycles which is equivalent of doing a regime of chemotherapy for 5 days in a ROW for a week.

I tell you, this was when I said about chemotherapy, "This is a DISASTER!" That chemotherapy really leads me to have occasional vomiting and nausea, of course; even the aged people can't really bear it. Well, I did it for 4 cycles. After those 4 cycles however, the doctor examined again that the tumour was just removed of about a trace (of about less than 10%, say). So the doctor ask for another surgeon from Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) to perform the surgery to remove the best amount of tumour they can do for me.

It was a relief after the surgery. The surgery was a success! But, when the doc in HKL contacted us back, they found out from the lab That's where I spent the last 4 cycles of chemo again, (which I dislike) :(

Well, It goes the same as the one before. After the 4 cycles, I was frankly done with chemo! Just another regular check-ups to go.... In fact, I was just about 20 years of age but the range of normal patients were diagnosed at about 30 - 50 years of age. That means it is a rare case I guess. If you want to know about my symptoms, maybe just read this on...

The end of 2nd operation

「お前が生まれた時 父さん母さんたちは
どんなによろこんだ事だろう
私たちだけを 頼りにしている
寝顔のいじらしさ」

息子 (Anak) - 杉田二郎

Diaries of IJN 2nd operation (3rd July 2010 ~ 8th July 2010)

The days of operation have passed. The only way get on with my studies is... to rest for a while after my 2nd operation. Nothing else, but to recover at home. I loved my 'stay' in IJN, but I have to go however... I'll miss you IJN! *sob* *sob*

Smiling is one of the virtues of life :)

Last Sunday (3rd July), I was admitted to the IJN ward. Long waited for the operation treatment to be held. After that, came the anasthetist, doctor and the surgeon to perform the operation. I felt a bit scared though, but it's not painful after all.

My mother... at hard times

After the operation, I was sent to the different ward. Thankfully this time, I was not admitted to the ICU. Thank God. Here goes the story after the operation. After the operation, I have to lie on the bed all day long, fed with hospital food and had me bandaged on the operated part. That Tuesday night, I couldn't sleep at all, kept on pressing the button of the 'painkiller' (actually it helps to reduce pain after the operation). Early in the morning, I can't sleep.. until around 6 a.m. Around that time, I slept well after the pain started to reduce. At that time, I felt much relieved. Thank God.

Thank God... I'm able to stand up!

I woke up again around noon, but I can't go to the toilet. Thankfully, I had had the catheter near my bladder for urination purpose. Until Thursday morning, I have to carry on with my x-ray on the ground floor of the IJN building. So I have to ambulate myself, carrying with me the catheter with the aid of the wheelchair in order to get there. (Sounds embarrasing, isn't it?) After the x-ray, the results came and my surgeon Mr. Ezani informed that my chest functions well.

In the IJN cafe

Back to my ward. While lying on the bed, I used this spirometer to exercise with my lung function. At that time, I could only reach 500 ml over my breathing exercise. Until Thursday midnight, I had my catheter removed. Lega hati, rather than having myself lying on the bed all the time. Around that time, I ambulated myself along, meeting the nurses outside, before getting myself to sleep.

An IJN ward 'shot' before being discharged from the ward

Until the morning, I was called to do some physiotherapy before getting discharged from IJN. In the end, I just get ready something to carry back to our home because I have to discharge that Thursday on 8th of July.

~ The end of the story ~

Back to IJN

Hmm... Back to my second surgery in IJN. My very first surgery was quite a risky one. It was considered as a major surgery for that matter. This was because there were a malignant part of cancer in it, and my bones were cut off just to remove a large hideous cancer in my body. So, it was carried out and had it removed. End of my first surgery since about half a year back.

Well, my second surgery. The second surgery will be held because I have had another tumor troubling my chest. But, thankfully, it was a 'benign' one. Will be conducted soon this Tuesday. Maybe a keyhole surgery, according to my doctors in IJN. Wish me luck for the operation.

Wassalam.

Masa telah berlalu

Menghitung hari
Detik demi detik

Masa ku nanti apa kan ada

Jalan cerita kisah yang panjang

Menghitung hari...

Menghitung Hari - Kris Dayanti

Masa oh masa...

Wassalam.

Of lemon and lime

"I wonder how
I wonder why

Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky

And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree..."

Lemon Tree - Fool's Garden

Well, I thought of sharing something interesting about the name foundation of lime. This was because I'm actually a citric lover! Do you, too? As most of you know that lime and lemon can be differentiated by its colour, isn't it? Lemon is yellow in colour and lime is green in colour.

Mmm... Nice sour lemon!

Okay, I'm sure you know the look of a lemon fruit, right? I'll share with you about the history of lime. I just read a book called Food & Cancer by Dr. Chris K. H Teo and Ch'ng Beng Im. I received this book from someone concerning about my terrible chest cancer in about last 9 months, I guess. So I read through it, and I was surprised that everything written in that book is rather 'boring', but this book 'cares' about me, very much. Did you know what? Everything written in that book was about food. Nothing else!

Suddenly, I read somewhere in that book, and read about limes. It says that limes are good for relieving arthritic pains, benefit the liver and are therapeutic for hot tempers and negative emotions, just like me. I always get angry when I have stress over family conflicts. Well, I guess this is my turn for me to eat lime fruit.

Lime.. Me likey!

However, I was quite surprised to see that the lime got its name by the nickname 'limey' (that sounds great, don't you think?). The surprising discovery of lime was that they used it on British sailors to have enough lime juice everyday in order to survive in ten days, sailing out at sea. That was about 19th century, I think. Before they set sail, the English ships were required to carry enough limes for each sailor to get ready to set sail. In this case, it was used by them as a remedy for scurvy, because of its Vitamin C, generally.

Orange. Yummy!

So, if someone don't really like citrus stuff, it's better to make up your mind that it can help you to obtain Vitamin C, or the chemical name ascorbic acid, or its molecular formula: C6H8O6. Did that helps you a little for your chemistry? Hope you really like chemistry because, I liked it too! Well, not only that vitamin C can help to prevent scurvy, and it is of cooling nature, according to that book, whether it is orange, lemon or lime. Well, that's my short description about lemon and lime. Hope you enjoy reading! :D
